Los Angeles Dodgers beat Chicago Cubs 5-0 in Spring Training – MLB Update
The Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, March 11, dismantled the defence of Chicago Cubs and rendered the offence incapacitated to win 5-0 at Glendale, Arizona, as the Cactus League saw one of the finest games whereby Ted Lilly of the Dodgers uprooted the Cubs’
hitters.
Lilly went for three innings, allowed only a hit to maintain the hold of Dodgers on the game while Matt Garza of the Cubs was unable to play his role in keep the team’s defence intact. In just over an inning that he pitched, he allowed no less than three
hits, gave up four runs with only one strike-out.
Those four runs that Garza gave up proved utterly costly for the Cubs, not allowing them to recover from it in the whole game. Lilly, on the other hand, was full of pride for the performance that he exhibited in the game, allowing the team a comfortable
victory over the Chicago Cubs.
"I take great pride in answering the bell every five days," he said. "But I put the club in to some pretty tough spots. ... I don't want to come into spring and be so far behind, which is where I have been the last couple of years."
Garza was understandably not very pleased with the performance that he gave, but will go prepared for the next game. "I got myself in trouble more than anything," Garza said. "Just a bad day. I'll get ready for the next one."
Trent Oeltjen of the Dodgers had three at-bats, scoring two runs with two hits to his credit while Juan Uribe had a hit to his credit, allowing Cory Sullivan and Jerry Sands to score a run each for the Dodgers to take the score to four with a run coming
from Justin Sellers’ bat. The Dodgers worked hard to win the game 5-0 as none of the Cubs’ hitters could score any run.
With the loss that came the Cubs’ way, the club will now try to avoid the similar fate in the next game and will exert itself to score a much needed victory in the Cactus League. The team will be looking for an improved performance to uplift their confidence
during Spring Training.
