Los Angeles Dodgers’ bidder Steve Cohen plans to hire Tony La Russa – MLB News
The Los Angeles Dodgers and one of their potential owners Steve Cohen, who owns the Hedge-Fund, is expected to bring in Tony La Russa on a key front office position only if he wins the $1.6 billion bid to buy the South Los Angeles baseball franchise.
"Hiring Tony La Russa would be a great start," said Larry King, who was also amongst the top bidders. "After talking to Steve, my own hunch is that Tony La Russa would become club president. Tony doesn't want to be the general manager. Where are the baseball people? Where are the L.A. people except Magic Johnson? I would love to see Dennis Gilbert involved. He's a baseball guy. He loves the game so much. You need that passion. It's been missing for so long here.”
On contrary to Steve Cohen’s optimism to hire former St. Louis Cardinals’ main man behind the 2012 World Series title Tony La Russa, this is also very objective of his advisers who suggested Cohen to act in that manner.
The sale of the Dodgers’ franchise is still confusing for many. Since it was declared somewhat bankrupt and that the franchise is going to bear no more extra burden regarding their financial affairs and players’ huge salaries issues, the matter is still lingering in the hands of Major League authorities. They may be not involved directly with the set price of franchise or the base price of the bidding, but indirectly baseball commissioner Bud Selig is overlooking the entire process.
On the other hand, Cohen’s bid of $1.6 billion to purchase the Dodgers is also very lucrative. Now the ball is in Dodgers’ court and if the top management and the MLB accepted their offer, this deal will make the South Los Angeles baseball franchise one of the richest franchises in the League. However, there are some other major players as well who are also strong and possess the ability to give the Dodgers a new life-line.
In the meanwhile, the Dodgers’ Major League roster is busy in Arizona playing in this year’s Spring Training who is also hoping a great future for their franchise.
