Los Angeles Dodgers defeat Cincinnati Reds 9-6 - MLB Update
Chad Billingsley struck-out three and scored three RBIs as the Los Angeles Dodgers overpowered the Cincinnati Reds 9-6 in the third game of the three game series at the Great American Ballpark, on Sunday, June 5 to lead the series 2-1.
The Dodgers started the game in a positive manner as Andre Ethier led the game off with his sacrifice fly for an RBI single and then Matt Kemp launched a 39-feet long two-run homer off the Dodgers’ starter, Travis Wood in the first inning to take an early
3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, the Reds’ Drew Stubbs launched a dazzling 434-feet long one-run homer to trim the lead to 1-3 but in the top of the second inning the Dodgers’ Billingsley hammered a one-run homer to widen the lead to 4-1. However, in the bottom
of the second, the Reds’ Brandon Phillips drove to centre-field for an RBI double that reduced the lead again to 3-4.
In the top of the third inning, the Dodgers’ Rod Barajas blistered a strong shot to left-field for an RBI double and then Billingsley added his third RBI of the game to advance the lead to unassailable 7-3 position. Billingsley, on the other hand, with the
ball then threw a perfect third inning to increase the pressure on the Reds.
In the fourth inning, Joey Votto, the Reds’ first baseman earned some relief for his team with an RBI single but Billingsley drove in another RBI in the fifth inning while Jerry Sands scored an RBI in the sixth inning to improve the lead to 9-4.
Billingsley, after pitching five innings in which he allowed four runs on eight hits, walked three and struck-out three, handed the ball to reliever John Ely in the sixth inning. The right-hand Billingsley in his 13th start of the season tossed 64 strikes
of 106 pitches to improve his record to 5-4 with another win with a 3.70 ERA.
Ely allowed two runs, one each in the sixth and ninth inning, on three hits, walked two and struck-out four batters in order to help Billingsley win his fifth game of the season.
The Reds’ starter, Wood allowed eight runs on eight hits, walked five and struck-out just three over only four innings to bear his fourth loss of the season. Apart from him, only Jeremy Horst out of three relievers allowed a run. Chad Reineke, Jose Arredondo,
and closer Carlos Fisher each remained scoreless in their innings.
