Los Angeles Dodgers defeat Colorado Rockies 10-8 - MLB Update
The Los Angeles Dodgers started late with the bat but managed to take the game back into their side and overpowered the Colorado Rockies after an electrifying 10-8 competition in the rubber fixture of the four-game series at Coors Field on Sunday, June 12.
After the Dodgers’ starter Ruby De La Rosa allowed a three-run homer to the Rockies’ right fielder Seth Smith in the bottom of the first inning, the Dodgers’ batting line went under great pressure. In the third inning though, James Loney launched a dazzling
grand slam off the Rockies’ starter Ubaldo Jimenez to take his team directly to a 4-3 lead.
"I don't think there was a big difference. The last time he was hitting his spots real well," Loney said. "For the most part today, he was trying to get ahead of guys. We just put some good swings early on."
Rod Barajas followed Loney with an RBI single and the batting line-up, who was struggling before the top of the third inning, readily came into the best of their swings. Matt Kemp and Rod Barajas each launched a striking one-run homer in the fifth inning
to ruin Jimenez’ outing.
The 27-year-old pitcher, who has five years of experience in the Majors, allowed seven runs on eleven hits, walked one and made just two strike-outs to lose his seventh game in 2011.
"I tried to do everything within my means; it just didn't happen," Jimenez said.
The Rockies’ reliever Rex Brothers entered the plate in place of Jimenez in the seventh inning but he could not save himself from the hard hitting of the Dodgers. He allowed a bunt single to Tony Gwynn before handing the ball to Matt Belisle, who gave a
single to right which cost Brothers another RBI run.
La Rosa, after allowing a home-run in the first inning, struck-out six batters and allowed three walks to earn his third game of the season without any loss.
However, as soon as he handed the ball to reliever Ramon Troncoso, the Rockies bounced back and launched two homers to trim the lead to 9-7. Carlos Gonzalez launched to the centre-field for two-runs while Troy Tulowitzki hammered to left-field.
The Rockies were optimistic to take the game back into their side but in the top of the eighth inning, their reliever Rafael Betancourt yielded an RBI single, which sent the Rockies under a three run deficits.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Todd Helton launched a splendid one run homer off the Dodgers’ closer Blake Hawksworth to take the Rockies to 8-10 but it was not enough to avoid their 34th loss of the season.
