Los Angeles Dodgers defeat Colorado Rockies 6-1 – MLB Update
The Los Angeles Dodgers overpowered the Colorado Rockies 6-1 in the first outing of the three-game series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Friday, August 26.
Dodgers’ starter Ted Lilly had an excellent day with the ball, as he struck-out five batters over seven innings to get his eighth win of the season. After he allowed a single in the first inning to the Rockies Carlos Gonzalez, he made a perfect comeback
and destroyed the opposition with his perfect changeups and fastballs. The right-hand hurler worked 89 pitches to allow only three hits and one walk to improve his record to 8-13 with 4.43 ERA.
"I felt great. No excuses today," said Lilly, who had acupuncture to ease a stiff neck. "I got away with a few more mistakes, pitches they didn't hit hard. (Catcher) Rod (Barajas) had a pretty good feel of what I was trying to do. That helps."
Kenley Jansen and Scott Elbert each tossed scoreless innings to help the Dodgers win their 61st game of the season.
Dodgers’ batting squad was under great pressure until the bottom of the seventh inning. In this inning, their struggling batting sparked and piled six game winning runs. Justin Sellers made a three run stroke to right field. Then James Loney hammered a two-run
homer followed by Matt Kemp, who struck a 430-feet long one run home-run to take the lead to 6-1.
Kemp hit his 30th home-run of the season and became the fastest Dodgers player to reach the mark in 130 games.
"It's special to me," he said. "I'm happy I got to do it here in L.A. with fans that have supported me. Still got a month to go, try to add onto that."
Rockies’ starter Esmil Rogers was brilliant with his six scoreless innings but this innings cost him his third loss of the season. He allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks. His seven strike-outs over 110 pitches did not prove helpful to get him
seventh win.
Mark Reynolds was given chance to stop the Dodgers bat up the middle of the seventh inning, but he received two homers.
