Los Angeles Dodgers defeat Milwaukee Brewers 5-1 to avoid series sweep – MLB Update
The Los Angeles Dodgers romped to a 5-1 win in the rubber game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park in Milwaukee on Thursday, August 18 to avoid series sweep.
Dodgers’ starter Clayton Kershaw had an outstanding day with the ball, as he struck-out six batters and allowed only five scoreless hits over eight innings to help his club avoid four-game series sweep. Kershaw tossed 73 strikes of 104 pitches to get his
fifteenth win of the season.
"They weren't really letting me get to two strikes," Kershaw said. "They were putting the ball in play early in the count. The first three innings I got my pitch count up there a little bit, but really the next four or five innings it was groundouts, pop
outs, fly outs."
The Dodgers’ bat again struggled in the start of the game but Rod Barajas launched a stunning homer off left field to nip the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning.
"Whenever he felt like he was throwing too many breaking balls, we went right back to his fastball -- his bread and butter. He's a young kid, but he definitely doesn't pitch like that or act that way," Barajas said. "He dominates and gives us a great chance
to win."
After this hit, the Brewers’ starter Marco Estrada bounced back and held the Dodgers bat to this score until the end of his spell in the fifth inning. He struck-out five batters and allowed three hits over his 94 pitches to get his eighth loss of the season.
In the seventh inning, the Dodgers’ Jamey Carroll hit a line drive to get the second run for Los Angeles. Clayton Kershaw contributed with the bat, hitting an RBI single in the seventh inning. Then Juan Rivera an Aaron Miles each scored a RBI single in the
eighth inning to get their team to a 5-0 lead.
Dodgers were about to shut the Brewers out but their starter Javy Guerra allowed an RBI single in the ninth inning to Peter Fielder, the Brewers’ first baseman.
With this win, the Dodgers managed to save themselves from a humiliating defeat at their road competition. However, this series proved devastating for them as they lost all the first three games in a mortifying manner. They received a 3-0 shutout in the
first, 2-1 close defeat in the second and 3-1 loss in the third game.
The Dodgers put in a tremendous effort as they managed to restrict the Brewers to only one run in the entire game. The Brewers will be looking to improve their performance before their next series.
