Los Angeles Dodgers defeat Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 - MLB Update
The Los Angeles Dodgers exhibited their best game to defeat the National League leaders Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 in the second game of the three-game series at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia on Monday, June 7 to tie the series at 1-all.
Dodgers landed at the plate with a positive attitude and expressed their ambition, as they dominated the opposition in the game. At the bottom of the first inning, starter Rubby De La Rosa held the opposition to no-hit while in the top of the second, catcher
David Navarro kicked off the game with a fast line drive single against the Phillies’ starter Roy Oswalt.
Having a 1-0 deficit compelled the Phillies to score a run, which they managed to acquire in the bottom half of the second inning but Oswalt failed to defend his team with the ball. In the top of the third inning, the Dodgers’ Casey Blake, Dee Strange-Gordon
and Andre Ethier each scored an RBI single to put pressure on the Phillies with 4-1.
Three-run deficit sent the Phillies batters under extreme pressure, which was evident on their faces while they entered for batting. The hopes were still alive until the third but it ended when the Dodgers’ batters managed to touch three more runs against
Oswalt, who until now has given four runs.
Rosa, on the other hand, completed his five innings, allowing just one run on four hits but he gave five walks, which forced the Dodgers’ manager Don Mattingly to replace Rosa with Blake Hawksworth to eliminate any chance for a run. Hawksworth threw a perfect
six inning that created more problems for the Phillies.
Oswalt managed to complete his six innings without allowing more runs before Juan Carlos Romero entered the plate to throw a scoreless seventh inning. Oswalt allowed four runs on eight hits, walked two and struck-out just one to build a foundation for his
fourth loss of the season.
However, in the bottom half of the seventh, the Phillies felt some confidence when Chase Utley scored an RBI single on a line drive triple against reliever Scott Elbert, who has just replaced Matt Guerrier, to trim the lead to 2-4.
Michael Stutes, who relieved Romero in the eighth inning, could not restrict Matt Kemp from touching a dazzling two-run homer to right-field. The Dodgers after getting a 6-2 lead held the Phillies to no-score in the bottom of this inning and the last inning
to snatch their 29th game of the season.
The Dodgers’ relievers Hawksworth, Elbert and closer Guerra remained scoreless over their one inning spell while starter La Rosa and Guerrier allowed one run each.
