Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Chicago Cubs 12-2 – MLB Update
The collective team effort of the Los Angeles Dodgers resulted in their 12-2 win over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field in Chicago on April 22.
The Dodgers’ infielder Juan Uribe had a remarkable day with the bat as he struck a two-run homer in the ninth inning to extend the Dodgers’ lead. In addition to the homer, he also made two runs on two hits including four RBIs. He did not have a good Major
League Baseball season during last year. However, Uribe proved his performance with some tremendous game play in the last three games.
Uribe was satisfied with himself. He said, “I feel real good right now. Before, I wasn't hitting. Now, I'm helping my team.”
It was the alleviating moment for the Dodgers when Uribe scored a single in the third inning and took the lead to 6-0. He also posted a run on the sacrifice fly during the sixth inning. With this convincing victory, Uribe improved his scoring runs as he
got nine RBIs in the last three games.
Andre Ethier also shined for the Dodgers as he made a crucial run in the start of the fourth inning on a single hit. He extended his hitting streak to more than 15 games in the season. Ethier walked two times and had one run with two at-bats. He had an exemplary
season so far with a batting average of .417 including two homers and more than eight RBIs.
Marcus Thames took two RBI singles in the ninth inning. A.J. Ellis participated equally and made two RBIs on two hits. While Ethier and Matt Kemp covered the bases three times.
The Dodgers’ starter Chad Billingsley provided much support to the Dodgers by permitting just two runs on seven hits and played a dominating role on the field. He struck-out three batters in six inning pitches. Billingsley also become the first man for the
Dodgers to have the longest pitched inning. He gave an outstanding start in the last games against the St. Louis Cardinals as he had 11 strike-outs including eight shut-out innings.
Speaking to reporters, Billingsley said, "We're concentrating on what we have to do. What it takes for each game to get ready. That's the only thing we can control. I was able to locate the ball down in the zone and get some groundballs today.”
On the other side, the Cubs’ starter Casey Coleman threw worst pitching as he gave away six runs on six hits in just two inning pitches. The same is the case with Marcos Mateo who also pitched badly and allowed three runs on six hits in only one inning pitches.
