Los Angeles Dodgers defeated by St. Louis Cardinals 3-5 – MLB news
Los Angeles Dodgers defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals 3-5 in the third game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, May 26 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
With this particular defeat, the Dodgers also lost the series 1-2. Starter Clayton Kershaw played poorly for the Dodgers. He tossed seven innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. He also allowed four earned runs on 1.68.
“Kershaw's a great pitcher. But he's going to come out and throw strikes, so you need to be ready to swing the bats, We needed every run we got,” Cardinals shortstop Pete Kozma said for Kershaw.
Later, Dodgers manager Mike Matheny said, “When you face someone like Kershaw, he's not going to give you anything. You have to scratch and claw for everything you get and that's what we did, The timely hits -- some of them weren't all that pretty. But these
guys came in here today talking about fighting, and that's exactly what they did.”
Although later the Dodgers’ pitchers did not receive any extra runs but still they remained under pressure and lost bitterly in the end.
Relief pitcher Matt Guerrier pitched 0.1 innings and allowed one run on one hit. He allowed one earned run as well on 3.72 ERA.
Along with pitchers, the Dodgers’ top hitters also could not play their natural game. Only few players showed little resilience on the plate and tried to swing hard against the Cardinals pitchers.
Left fielder Carl Crawford scored one run on three hits on his four at bats. He played confidently and maintained his slugging percentage at .467.
Adrian Gonzalez also started well and tried hard to win the game for the Dodgers. He scored one run along with three RBIs on .491 slugging percentage.
These two players certainly showed some courage but rest of the Dodgers’ hitters could not just stop the Cardinals’ consistent beating.
On the other hand, Cardinals’ played really solid and won in style. Their pitchers and batters played very well and secured the series as well.
Especially Shelby Miller played a key role in his team’s win. He pitched 5.1 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. He struck out three while his ERA remained consistent at 2.02.
