Los Angeles Dodgers edge New York Mets 7-6 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers edge past the New York Mets 7-6 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, July 20 at Citi Field in New York.
Dodgers seemed right back on track when they ousted the Mets in style. Recently the Dodgers have lost two consecutive series against the San Diego Padres and the Philadelphia Phillies while winning this particular game has given them extra confidence to remain in the competition towards a potential post season qualification.
Against the Mets, the Dodgers played well and earned a great victory. They pitched well and at the same time impressed their opponents with the bat as well.
Centre-fielder Matt Kemp performed tremendously. He added one run on his two hits while he also made two RBIs which gave the Dodgers early boost in the game.
"We know what Johan's capable of. We hopped out on him early, worked counts and got good pitches to hit and kind of made him pay for his mistakes, Usually he's hitting spots and his stuff is a little bit better. I just think he was a little off today,” Kemp said.
Right-fielder Andre Ethier also played well and contributed two important runs in the Dodgers win.
"It was nice to get the offense going out early," Andre Ethier said. "Wish we could have figured out a way to have it continue and kind of put them away instead of letting them back in the game like that."
Along with batters, the Dodgers' starter Aaron Harang also played brilliantly and performed with big energy.
He pitched five innings and received three runs on four hits along with one earned run as his ERA remained consistent at 3.46.
Relief pitcher Josh Lindblom pitched one inning and received one run and one earned run while his ERA also remained consistent at 3.27.
Dodgers’ closer Shawn Tolleson also performed tremendously and received only two runs on two hits.
On the other hand, unlike the Dodgers’ pitchers, the Mets pitching line-up played poorly and proved disastrous for their team.
Johan Santana, who has been playing quite consistently for the Mets, could not save that particular game and was hammered with six runs on seven hits in his three innings’ spell.
