Los Angeles Dodgers edge Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 - MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers edge past the Philadelphia Phillies in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, June 4 at Citizens Bank Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Dodgers entire roster played combined and never gave any extra loopholes to the Phillies. They remained confident throughout the game and eventually proved unstoppable for the Phillies.
Elian Herrera played brilliantly as hit a tiebreaking RBI and gave his team real opportunity to take away the game.
"I really love this game, I would have liked to have been here before, but that's how it works. I just want to be in the lineup. It doesn't matter where I play." said Herrera with confidence whose batting certainly outclassed the Phillies.
Later Dodgers' manager Don Mattingly said, "It's a testament to him that he continued to work hard, I'm happy for him. I didn't even know he could play outfield. When Matt (Kemp) went down, they said he could play center."
Jonathan Papelbon was the only Phillies pitcher who remained accurate and somewhat played aggressive for his team.
"I just wanted to ask him if he could throw me out for what I was thinking, He was terrible all night. He probably needs to go back to Triple-A.” Papelbon said after the game.
The overall game was played on high pace as Dodgers led early into first and later in the second innings.
Though, the Phillies bounced back with three quick runs in the third and ninth but still fell short by a single run which proved ultimate in the end with a bitter defeat in the hands of Los Angeles Dodgers.
With this win, the Dodgers have also maintained their top position in the National League West Division. Currently they are with 34-21 win loss record along with .618 winning percentage.
In the meanwhile, the Phillies need to do something if they wanted to move forward into the post season. They are persistently playing poorly and if they really want to qualify into the post season, they will be looking to move their winning percentage around .500.
