Los Angeles Dodgers edge past Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers edge past the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Monday, August 13 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
Dodgers’ played well from start of the game and gave no chance to the Pirates to take control at any stage of play.
Their hitters and pitchers played beautifully to power past the Pirates with great style.
Especially starter Aaron Harang did well on the mound and allowed only two runs. He looked confident from start of the game as he was smashed for five hits and two earned runs on his 3.76 ERA. He retired four batters and proved one of the winning factors for the Dodgers.
"You've got to be excited; it seems like, with this team anybody can step up at any time, and that's what it's going to take to stay competitive in this division and try to win this division," Harang said with confidence and explained about his performance.
Later Los Angeles' manager Don Mattingly, “He's been through it -- playoff runs the last three or four years, World Series, They just get hardened, and this is not going to overwhelm him down the stretch."
Relief pitcher Javy Guerra also played well as he pitched 0.2 innings and did not allow any run or hit while maintained his ERA at 2.79.
Closer Ronald Belisario though allowed two runs and three hits, but still he managed to uphold his 3.18 ERA.
On the other hand, the Pirates' pitchers did not play well and lost the game with bitter disgrace. They allowed five runs in total and made it easier for the Dodgers to oust them.
"It'll always be a challenge coming back, But sometimes that's how the game is laid out for you and you've got to keep battling," Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said.
Jeff Karstens pitched seven innings and allowed four runs and seven hits on his 3.91 ERA. He struck-out four batters but still his overall pitching was disappointing as he could not save the game for the Pirates.
