Los Angeles Dodgers edge past San Diego Padres 2-1 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers edge past the San Diego Padres 2-1 in the first game of their three-match series on Friday, July 13 at Dodgers’ Stadium, Los Angeles.
Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp played wonderfully for the Dodgers as both players’ performance was the main reason for the Padres defeat.
Eithier commented on his performance and the team’s consistent play throughout the game and said, "You can see what a difference it makes having a guy like Matty in that lineup to help the guys in front of him, Tonight he had two hits, and you see how it
changes the game when you see him on deck. So you've got to be around the zone more with Mark up because you don't want to put another guy on base for Matt."
Second baseman Mark Ellis also played a balanced game and scored one run on a single hit along with two RBIs as well.
Ellis said, "It was really fun to get a big hit like that, especially in front of the home crowd, Sometimes you rely too much on your 3-4 hitters.”
On the other hand, the Padres did not perform well and lost in the end. Their entire side played under pressure and could not fight the Dodgers’ offence which slowly but intelligently took the game away.
Padres’ starter Clayton Richard pitched seven innings and gave up five hits, two runs and two earned runs along with a homer.
Dodgers’ pitchers, especially Clayton Kershaw did well for his team. He pitched six innings and gave up only one run and one earned run. He also struck-out six as his ERA remained consistent at 2.84.
This is a healthy sign for the Dodgers as they won the first game of their second half campaign. It will be interesting to see how consistent the Dodgers play as the season gets more open.
At the moment the Dodgers are in second position in the National League West Division with 48-41 win-loss record and a .539 winning percentage. The Dodgers are looking very good this season and they will be hoping to put in a good performance during the
second half of the regular season to secure a potential spot in the post-season.
