Los Angeles Dodgers edged out by St. Louis Cardinals 1-2 as Steven Rodriguez allows single - MLB
Single allowed by relief pitcher Steven Rodriguez results in a 1-2 defeat of the Los Angeles Dodgers against the St. Louis Cardinals at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California on September 13, 2012 in the first game of the four match series.
Dodgers jumped to the lead in the first inning before they experienced a series of scoreless innings. The one run that they scored turned out to be the only one they managed on Thursday.
On the other hand, Cardinals were not that impressive as their offence could score only two runs. Thus, they finished the game with a lead. Compared to the Dodgers, they struck a greater number of hits in the match.
From the second inning onward, the game was heading toward ending up with a tie. If it was not for the single that Rodriguez gave up, the game was well-poised to enter into additional innings.
Josh Beckett initiated the proceedings for the Dodgers from the mound. In little more than five innings, he leaked seven hits and gave up one run while striking-out six. He managed to escape the loss because for as long as he stayed on the mound he did not
let the Cardinals enjoy the lead.
In contrast to him, Rodriguez suffered a loss because he helped Cardinals earn the lead and edge out the Dodgers in the latter half of the game.
The sole run from the Dodgers came through a double by first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. In the last few games he has been the only player who has managed hits for sending the base-runners aboard as the rest of the batters have struggled.
In light of the fact that the Dodgers boast second position on the table, losing games at this stage of the season is a dismal sign.
In order to make sure the heaps of wins that they have recorded in the season so far result into something substantive, they will be hoping that their offence can stand up.
By providing reasonable run support, the offence can aid in restoring the kind of dominance that the club maintained for the greater part of the season.
Still three games are left in the series. Dodgers’ fans will be looking forward to an immediate return to their winning ways.
