Los Angeles Dodgers face 0-1 defeat against Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field – MLB Update
Starter Clayton Kershaw’s immaculate spell of seven innings is spoiled by the double that he allowed as the Los Angeles Dodgers are shut-out 0-1 by the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona on September 11, 2012 in the first game of the two
match series.
The game was heading toward additional innings before the double came off from the Diamondbacks’ catcher Miguel Montero which sent the base-runner aboard.
The offence of both the teams was clueless on Tuesday as there were barely any productive hits hammered by the batters.
Dodgers managed five hits more in the match than Diamondbacks and yet they failed to score any run. In order to win they needed home-runs from their batters which never came from them throughout the game.
For the same reason the tremendous spell of seven innings by the Dodgers’ starter Kershaw was ruined.
Despite the fact he did not give up any earned up and yielded only three hits, he suffered the loss. He struck-out five and will be disappointed as a few runs on the scoreboard by his team would have ensured him the victory.
Offensively Dodgers’ third baseman Luis Cruz brought highest number of hits for his team. He was 2-for-3. Other than him, their left fielder Shane Victorino managed one hit in four at-bats.
Kershaw rues the throw which allowed the batter an opportunity to strike a hit and bring the sole run of the game as a result. He realises that in such a low scoring game he was supposed to be perfect all through the match.
"I blinked first tonight," Kershaw said. "I threw a pitch I shouldn't have. I didn't put it where I wanted to and Miguel did a good job with it and made me pay for it. You can't blink first in those games and I did."
Dodgers will be looking to unlearn the mistakes they committed on Tuesday and make sure they win the last game of the series. Their offence was below par in the match and thus needs sharp improvements.
Dodgers will hope they draw better run support from the offence in their next game.
