Los Angeles Dodgers fall short to Philadelphia Phillies 2-3 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 2-3 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, July 16 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Phillies at the moment are going quite well as they recently won two straight games from the Colorado Rockies in their first series in the second half of the regular season.
While coming into this game, the Phillies came with roaring confidence and left the Dodgers’ home field with pride.
Their entire batting line-up and pitchers played as one unit as they did not give any hance to their opponents to take control during the entire game.
Both of the Phillies pitchers played well and earned a great victory for their team.
Starter Joe Blanton pitched eight innings and gave two runs on six hits. He struck-out seven while his ERA remained consistent at 4.79.
Blanton commented on his performance and said, "Keeping the ball down was a big difference. Lately I've had a little bit of trouble doing that as consistently as I did tonight, I try to throw as many strikes as I can and expand the zone a little bit when I get ahead in the count."
Closer Jonathan Papelbon also performed wonderfully and pitched his spell with great accuracy and remained calm on the mound. He received one hit and struck-out one Dodgers’ batter as his ERA remained at 3.09.
On the other hand, the Dodgers played poorly and lost in the end. They did not perform well and just could not match the Phillies brilliance.
Dodgers' manager Don Mattingly discussed his team's poor play and said, “We played more our style of game tonight, and those are the ones we have to win, We talked about it today. We need to stay with what we do, stay with who we are. What I didn't like yesterday was that we didn't have the feel that we expected to win.”
Los Angeles' Nate Eovaldi pitched five innings and gave up three runs on six hits. His performance was one of the main reasons the Dodgers lost the game with a one run deficit.
