Los Angeles Dodgers hammer Washington Nationals 7-6 – MLB Recap
Los Angeles Dodgers hammered the Washington Nationals 7-6 on Wednesday, September 19 at Nationals Park in Washington.
It was a well fought game in which both teams showed their true offensive class. Nationals held the Dodgers with great force but the Los Angeles side remained more consistent offensively and won the game in style.
Centre fielder Matt Kemp did well on the plate as he scored three runs and smashed two hits on his four at-bats along with two RBIs. He also maintained his slugging percentage at .531.and outclassed the Nationals’ pitchers.
"It looked pretty close. I actually probably should have been running just forward and not looking back. ... I don't know if I quite made it or not, Actually, yeah, I don't think I did," Kemp said.
Second baseman Mark Ellis scored one run and smashed one hit on five at-bats. He played quite aggressively and maintained his slugging percentage at .367.
"At the time, I don't think anyone thought it was a really big deal, but it turned out to be a big deal, It was 5-0, and they just make it 6-0," Ryan Zimmerman said.
Left fielder Shane Victorino also did well on his four at-bats as he scored one run and smashed one hit on his consistent .373 slugging percentage.
On the other hand, Dodgers' pitchers also did well on the mound and maintained their focus on the Nationals’ batters.
Josh Beckett tossed 7.1 innings and received five hits and four runs along with two homers on 3.45 ERA. He showed great resilience during his entire spell and earned a good win for the Dodgers.
On the other hand, the Nationals’ pitchers despite pitching well could not save the game.
"I can't remember ever putting a ball in that spot and getting hurt like that in my whole career. It's a tough one to swallow, but nothing I can do about it now," said Tyler Clippard on his team’s performance.
John Lannan pitched 3.2 innings and received six runs and eight hits. Despite retiring three, he could not maintain his ERA which rose to 4.43.
