Los Angeles Dodgers hammered by Pittsburgh Pirates 6-10 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers got hammered by the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-10 in the final game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, August 16 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
Pirates’ held the Dodgers with great energy and won in the end. Their pitchers showed enormous amount of energy and kept the Dodgers under pressure during the entire game.
A.J. Burnett despite receiving six runs was still able to hold back the Dodgers’ experienced hitters and saved the game for the Pirates. He pitched 6.2 innings and retired seven batters on his 3.54 ERA.
“If you're going to hit a homer, act like you've hit one before, The first batter, Loney, hit one, was very professional about it, Ran hard the whole way. I just thought he did a little something at second base. It was heat of the moment," Burnett said on his performance.
Later manager Don Mattingly said, "We came here having won the first three games of the series. We're not a frustrated team, We're not trying to cause any trouble. It's not like we've lost 10 of 11 and looking for a fight. We're here ready to play baseball. To have Matt taken out of the game is not right."
Along with pitchers, the Pirates' senior hitters also played well and contributed a great deal in the team’s win.
Second baseman Jordy Mercer scored two runs on a single hit as his slugging percentage also remained consistent at .366.
Centre fielder Andrew McCutchen also added two runs on his two at-bats.
Right fielder Garrett Jones was one of the most prolific performers on Thursday afternoon as he scored two runs, smashed two hits and added six RBIs on his three at-bats while his slugging percentage also stayed consistent at .542.
On the other hand, the Dodgers' entire roster played under pressure and lost in the end. Starter Joe Blanton disappointed his team as he received eight runs and seven hits in his 4.1 innings on his 4.96 ERA.
Closer Jamey Wright also showed very little energy in his pitching as he was also hammered with two runs and four hits.
