Los Angeles Dodgers hammered by St. Louis Cardinals 2-5 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers were hammered by the St. Louis Cardinals 2-5 in the fourth game of their four-match regular series encounter on Saturday, September 16 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
"It was a long one and both teams fought hard, Everyone knows what's at stake right now and we've got our work cut out for us,” Jon Jay said on his and his team's overall performance that outclassed the Dodgers.
He added, "We haven't been playing too well lately, but we've been playing hard. Today we came up with a win on getaway day and it put us back up again. That's huge. But every game from here on out is our most important game. We've been there before, so we know what we've got to do. It's just a matter of doing it."
Starter Adam Wainwright showed his class and literally won the game for the Cardinals. He stood tall against the entire batting line-up of the Dodgers and eventually rattled them with big force.
He allowed just two runs and five hits on his consistent 3.97 ERA. He pitched six solid innings and allowed only one homer. He remained confident on the mound as he struck-out four Dodgers’ batters.
His team-mate and relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal also did well on the mound as he pitched two innings and did not give any run or hit. He also struck-out four while his ERA remained consistent at 3.63.
On the other hand, the Dodgers' pitchers could not play well and lost the game with a three-run margin.
Stephen Fife tossed five innings for the Dodgers and allowed two runs and four hits. Though he struck-out nine but he could not save the game as his ERA remained at 2.49.
Later though the Dodgers relievers did well on the mound but closing pitcher John Ely spoiled the entire game. He did not pitch accurately and received three runs and two hits in just 0.2 innings spell. His ERA rose to 20.25 which certainly proved one of the losing factors for the Dodgers.
