Los Angeles Dodgers have a new interested buyer: Magic Johnson – MLB News
While there was already an elite list of interested buyers, former Los Angeles Lakers’ star Magic Johnson also showed his interest on Friday, December 2 in buying the Los Angeles Dodgers.
From Mark Cuban, who is Dallas Mavericks’ owner, to Peter O`Malley and Dennis Gilbert to Steve Garvey; there is indeed a big list of names which have shown their interest in buying the Dodgers.
But Johnson’s name might have come as a surprise to many observers. Johnson’s interest was reported in the Los Angeles Times yesterday. The confirmation came when Johnson confirmed it and stated that he loves baseball and has always remained the Dodgers
fan.
"I love baseball," Johnson told the Times. "I've been a Dodgers fan and gone to the park many, many times."
Johnson’s group has a lot to offer when it comes to the financial dealings. The company has assets worth $125 billion. All the same, with an office in Los Angeles, the firm currently has their headquarters in New York and Chicago.
It is also important to mention that it is the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals’ former president Stan Kasten who is one of the big names in the group, which indeed is something re-assuring for Johnson.
"Stan Kasten is my man," Johnson said about an executive once also was president of the NBA Hawks, the NHL Thrashers and chairman of Philips Arena at the same time he had the top position with the Braves. "He's a winner, he's built two incredible organizations
and he's well respected. That is what important to me. I had to get with a winner, a guy who understands baseball inside and out."
Importantly, while Johnson has remained one of the owners of the Lakers, Kasten is famously known for having helped the Braves win the World Series no less than five times in 90s. Starting from 1991 to 1999, while the Braves had a glorious march to win the
World Series titles, it remains to be seen if Johnson wins this buying race to put the Dodgers on the same path.
