Los Angeles Dodgers humiliated by Colorado Rockies 0-10 as Josh Beckett allows three runs-MLB Update
The starter Josh Beckett struggles to contain batters as the Los Angeles Dodgers are decimated by the Colorado Rockies 0-10 at Coors Field, Denver, Colorado on August 27, 2012 in the first match of the three game series.
Dodgers had no answer before the quality throws. Their refurbished line-up failed to live up to the hype after the acquisitions by the club through trades.
Left fielder Shane Victorino strengthens the notion that he will not be retained by the Dodgers and will be allowed to go in to free agency.
Victorino was obtained after a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies in the hope that his production will increase sharply late in the season. Unfortunately he has been far from impressive so far. On Monday, he was 1-for-3.
Another acquisition this season by the Dodgers namely Hanley Ramirez was hitless in the game. Similarly Adrian Gonzalez who is part of the blockbuster deal recently completed by the club was without a hit on Monday.
The bottom line was the Dodgers struck only four hits in the match, which resulted in a thumping defeat for them.
Beckett threw little more than five innings. He struck-out six but he allowed the Rockies an early lead in the game. Even worse were the relievers that came late in the innings. Both Kenley Jansen and Josh Wall gave up seven runs put together.
Meanwhile, Jeff Francis completed an impeccable spell of five innings for Colorado. He was the main architect of the overall demise of the Dodgers on Monday as he struck-out six and yielded just three hits.
"It's funny, you know, because it's only five innings. In the world of starting pitchers, it's really nothing to get excited about," Francis said. "Within our role on this team, it's our job. That's what we go out there to do. So, it is very satisfying.
It's weird to stand here and think I did a really good job -- I threw five innings."
Losing the first game of the series deprives the team of a psychological edge which can be used to maintain the dominance in the rest of the matches. Therefore, Los Angeles will be playing out of the ordinary to keep the Rockies from winning more games.
