Los Angeles Dodgers lose to St. Louis Cardinals 2-8 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals 2-8 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, July 24 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
Cardinals’ played real offensive and kept the Dodgers under pressure during the entire game.
They never gave any chance to the Dodgers to take control of the match and instead maintained their hold throughout the game which eventually proved fruitful in the end.
Though the Dodgers’ took the early lead in the fourth inning, but the Cardinals’ bounced back in style and levelled the score 2-2 in the very next inning.
Later in the bottom sixth, the Cardinals scored some quick six runs and strengthened their position with a six run advantage. On other end, the Cardinals pitchers restricted the Dodgers’ batters to score freely and allowed only two runs which were not enough for them to save the game.
Cardinals’ manager Mike Matheny said later in the game, “The bat really wasn't as expected, but he pitched a great game, You can see when he's locked in and when he has everything working, he gets that fire. He's had that most of the time.”
Cardinals’ starter Adam Wainwright pitched 7.1 innings and allowed two runs and seven hits. He also allowed two earned runs and struck-out seven batters on 4.31 ERA.
Wainwright said, "It was not a bad pitch, not where he wanted it, With a guy like me up there, you've got to make your pitch. I can't even say that with a straight face, What you do at the plate makes a difference in a win or loss, There's been several times this season where I didn't come through we ended up losing by one."
Wainwright also contributed with the bat as he scored two runs and two RBIs as his slugging percentage also remained consistent at .128.
On the other hand, Dodgers' starter Clayton Kershaw was hammered with some big hitting. He alone allowed eight runs and seven hits along with eight earned runs and literally lost the game for his team.
