Los Angeles Dodgers’ new owner will be decided this week – MLB News
News is coming from different inside sources that the Los Angeles Dodgers’ new owner will be decided by the end of this month. The sources are telling that Major League Baseball authorities have made clear to Frank McCourt to take things seriously and further
delay will be more harmful for both sides and especially for the Dodgers who might receive heavy penalties on potential delay.
It has almost been one year since the Dodgers are looking for a new owner, but with the sluggishness of MLB and current owner McCourt, the matter is still not resolved instead got more complicated.
In the meanwhile, after short-listing three potential big groups for the new ownership, the MLB now will decide whose bid is more competitive and who will run the affairs of Dodgers business with more commitment. The selected candidates are Steven Cohen,
Stan Kroenke and a group led by former National Basketball Association superstar Magic Johnson. These all posses fair amount of sport-franchise knowledge and know their individual role in Dodgers’ sale.
According to some experts, among all, Steven Cohen looks more confident to get the deal done. Cohen is hedge-fund billionaire, is an experience campaigner and plays his cards with great care. Even the current president and chief executive of AEG Tim Leiweke
has also stated in the media in recent past of Cohen getting the full hold of the Dodgers franchise.
Leiweke praised if Cohen gets the eventual ownership of South Los Angles’ baseball franchise saying, "We both agree Steve would be a great owner, He has the resources. He certainly has the passion to do it. He certainly gets the commitment it's going to
take with the team and the stadium. We bring some knowledge of facilities. We don't want to lead the charge. We're not baseball guys. That's not our area of expertise."
The projected price is $1.5 billion, but there is little confusion as whether the parking lots of Dodgers’ stadium are included in it or not. Frank McCourt has a different perspective and considers parking lots generate some hefty amount of money and if
somebody wants these parking lots as well, he needs to come up with more funds.
