Los Angeles Dodgers’ offence shines as they beat Colorado Rockies 8-2 – MLB Update
Los Angeles Dodgers put in a good performance to defeat Colorado Rockies 8-2 in the third consecutive game at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles on Tuesday, May 31.
The starting pitcher who contained the Rockies pitcher looks forward to the games ahead. "I don't think this is necessarily a hot streak," winning pitcher Ted Lilly said. "We're pretty good. We're going to do some damage as the season goes on."
While Lilly played his part with solid pitching spell, Casey did it with bat. "That first breakout game we had, we scored a bunch. That was a big confidence booster for us," said Blake. We needed something like that. There's been a lot of frustration the
last month."
Matt Kemp provided an ideal start to Los Angeles in the very first inning. He had a major hit on a vulnerable pitch of Clayton Mortensen and homered to right, earning a two-run homer, giving a 2-0 lead to his team.
"Over the last few days we're starting to put some runs on the board," Dodgers’ manager Don Mattingly said. "If we can do that consistently, we're going to be tough." He was inarguably right, as the team has 23 runs in the last three games they have played.
After two scoreless innings, Clayton Mortensen brought the Dodgers’ lead down 2-1 when Lilly threw a seemingly slow delivery. Matt Kemp responded back, as he earned his and the team’s fourth run in the third inning, giving the Dodgers 4-1 lead by the end
of the fourth inning.
Aaron Miles had his own contribution with the fifth run for Dodgers. Lilly was seemingly beyond any hitters’ control. He did not show any weakness in terms of pitching and kept the lead up as he was backed by the potentially devastating Dodgers’ offence.
Casey Blake put a complete end to Colorado’s hopes in the seventh inning. Matt Daley was effectively capitalised upon by Blake who had a massive hit, earning a three-run homer for the Dodgers. That gave an ultimate and obviously irreversible 8-2 lead to
Los Angeles.
Rubby De La Rosa pitched with renewed confidence as his Dodgers effortlessly cruised past a straining Rockies with an emphatic 8-2 victory.
It will be interesting to see how the Dodgers carry their winning momentum into the next game. The Rockies put in a decent performance, but it was not enough for the win.
