Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier out from home run derby – MLB News
Several reports are coming in the media that the Los Angeles Dodgers’ star outfielder Andre Ethier will not be participating in the Major League Baseball’s home run derby event due to his oblique injury.
Later the local media has also reported that Ethier himself stated in the media that it is very difficult for him to return with a serious injury.
Ethier told the media that he is currently not in the Dodgers’ line-up and to feature in the home run derby will damage his playing chances further in the season.
“You just have to be smart about it, They keep reminding me -- I don’t know if I agree with it -- it’s for the better for the second half, rather than coming back for a couple now and possibly re-injuring it and being out longer.” Ethier said in detail and explained his current situation.
Ethier added, “That’s one thing that is out, just because our goal here is to win in the second half, That’s all our goal is. We’ve worked hard to put ourselves in this position, to be right in the thick of things in the second half. It’s just a smart move.”
Speculations are also roaring that Ethier will be out of the Dodgers’ line-up until the All-Star break.
His injury will take some time to heal. His strained left oblique was diagnosed in San Francisco while his team doctors have suggested him to take complete rest as it will help him to play the rest of the season.
At the moment, the Dodgers’ other player and Ethier’s team-mate Matt Kemp is also not sure over his participation in the home run derby. He is also carrying an injury which has already put him on the disabled list.
Kemp however, is the National League skipper and his potential replacement is yet to be announced.
Coming onto Ethier’s injury and his participation in the home run derby, experts believe that it is fine for his play as he certainly wants to represent his team in the remaining Major League season and he must take some vital rest before his potential comeback.
