Los Angeles Dodgers pound Pittsburgh Pirates 11-0 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-0 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, August 14 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
Dodgers’ played beautifully and hammered the Pirates with big force. They stretched an eleven run lead and never gave any chance to their opponents to get close. The Pirates could not even score a single run and eventually lost the game with bitter humiliation.
“We are doing a lot better than we did last year, We are still in a good position and where we need to be. It's not like we are 30 games out of it. We're still fighting, and we need to keep playing like we are the team that everybody is scared to play against," outfielder Andrew McCutchen said optimistically.
Pirates’ entire pitching line-up played terribly poor and allowed total 11 runs and 13 hits.
Starter Kevin Correia pitched six innings and allowed six runs and seven hits on his 4.63 ERA.
He struck-out only three Dodgers’ batters and looked tired during his entire outing.
Relief pitcher Chad Qualls also performed without any energy as he was hit with five runs and four hits on his 5.15 ERA.
“This is our worst patch of play probably during the season," Pirates' manager Clint Hurdle said with much disappointment and told the media about his team’s poor effort.
On the other hand, both Dodgers’ pitchers did well on the mound and earned a great victory for their team. They remained calm on the mound and eventually ease past the Pirates comprehensively.
Starter Chad Billingsley started the game for the Dodgers and played superbly. He pitched eight innings and received five hits with no run. He retired five Pirates' batters as his ERA remained consistent 3.62.
“You know, honestly, nothing much, I've been throwing just fastballs and commanding the fastball pretty well lately, and just mixing in offspeed. As far as my thought process, it hasn't changed,” Billingsley said.
Closer Shawn Tolleson also supported his team-mate well and pitched his one inning with great accuracy on 3.38 ERA.
