Los Angeles Dodgers’ receive more than ten bids for their potential sale – MLB News
The Los Angeles Dodgers have received more than 10 bids including from Magic Johnson, Mark Cuban, Peter O'Malley and Joe Torre for the team’s potential sale on Tuesday that was hidden from the general public.
Sources are also saying that at least 20 prominent parties are confirmed to put-in initial bids for the Dodgers which are expected in the next few days as well.
Michael Ozanian, who is an executive editor at Forbes and writes about the business of sports especially for US sports, recently stated in the media about this Dodgers’ bidding and sale process.
He said, “Given what I have learned about the court-sealed agreement between the Dodgers and Major League Baseball on the sale of the team, media rights and related assets, bids will definitely be over $1.4 billion and perhaps as high as $2 billion.”
Later, one source, who is also involved in the bidding, stated on the condition of secrecy as the bidding process was not public, said, “So many groups going around looking for money this close to the bid deadline and they don't have their ducks in a row -- give me a break. Most of the leverage is with Fox. In my mind, they are the 800-pound gorilla in the corner everyone is ignoring," "If they want to buy it, they can buy it.”
One particular news and sports media corporation is also potentially holding-up an alternative stake to help save TV rights beyond 2013. This has not been done yet but the sources are saying that they also might come in the bidding process for securing their chance to buy a team whose TV rights they already own.
Los Angeles Dodgers are currently facing some serious bankruptcy issues and that is why the Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig ordered on January 14 that he is counting on the bankrupt team to be sold by April 30.
The next few days are critical when some other bidders will also be coming-up with their price for the Dodgers. Some say former Basketball legend and Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar Magic Johnson and current owner of National Basketball Association Champions the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban are the foremost potential candidates to buy the Dodgers.
