Los Angeles Dodgers revive to crush St. Louis Cardinals 13-2 – MLB Update
Clayton Kershaw increased his tally of wins to 16 this season as the Los Angeles Dodgers crushed the St. Louis Cardinals 13-2 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri on Tuesday, August 23.
The Dodgers have not been in top form this season and their last position in the National League West division is valuable evidence of their dreary performance. However, the Dodgers seemed to be a completely different unit in this game. They were epic on
the plate and sensational on the mound and it was the first time that both areas seemed to be completely unified.
The Cardinals were kept quiet by the Dodgers throughout the game and it was not before the ninth inning that they succeeded in adding two invaluable-runs helped by Corey Patterson and David Freese. The Cardinals made two substitutions in the batting line-up
but neither of them proved to be fruitful.
The Dodgers, on the contrary, added eight runs in the first three innings which included three runs and four runs in the first and second inning respectively. Justin Sellers and James Loney were perfect in their role as table setters as they safely loaded
the first two bases. Matt Kemp then unleashed a monstrous hit towards centre field which yielded three-runs for the Dodgers.
Sellers, Loney and Kemp were joined by Jamey Carroll in the second inning to complete the four runs and take the lead to seven runs as early as the second inning.
Rod Barajas then displayed his hitting power for the Dodgers as he smashed two home-runs in the game. His first homer came in the third inning before he unleashed another in the fifth inning, the latter being a three-run homer.
At the top of the ninth inning, the Dodgers were already 11 runs ahead and the Cardinals had no chance of resurgence from this point. Aaron Miles home-run at this stage added insult to injury as the Dodgers completed their season-best 13 runs.
Kyle Lohse was a disappointment for the Cardinals as he went for league-worst eight runs in three innings to lose his eighth game of the season.
The Dodgers have won the three-game series 2-0 with the third game scheduled for Wednesday, August 24.
