Los Angeles Dodgers rout New York Mets 8-5 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Mets 8-5 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, July 21 at Citi Field in New York City.
Dodgers played tremendously and earned a great victory against the Mets. This was the third straight victory for the Dodgers as well who are feeling quite better after coming into the second half of the season.
"Pretty much the same Cap. He just kind of keeps going," Dodgers' manager Don Mattingly said. "That's pretty much what we've been getting every time out."
While the Mets’ miserable run continued as they received yet another defeat from the Dodgers, who have already beaten them in the very first game of the series just a day ago.
The Mets are not only playing poorly in this particular series against the Dodgers, but since they have entered in the second half of the season, their bad form never helped them in any of the series they have played against the Atlanta Braves along with Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers.
In Saturday’s game, the Mets again fell short by three runs which proved disastrous in their effort to remain in the series.
"We needed some innings," Mets’ manager Terry Collins said on his team’s performance, "We had talked before the game, 80 to 90 pitches is what we hoped we could get out of him -- and he hadn't started in quite a while. But he got to 80 pitches in a hurry, so I had to make a move."
With that defeat, the Mets lost the series as well with one game to spare.
Mets pitchers played with low energy and lost in the end. Their starter Miguel Batista gave four runs in his three innings. He also gave four earned runs on five hits as his ERA rose to 4.82.
Relief pitcher Jeremy Hefner gave two runs, two hits and two earned runs as his EAR rose to 5.85.
Closer R.A. Dickey also played with low energy and proved disastrous for the Mets with his two runs, two hits and two earned runs.
