Los Angeles Dodgers rout St. Louis Cardinals 5-3 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers crushed the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3 in first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Monday, July 23 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
Dodgers from start of the game played well and kept the Cardinals under pressure while not giving any chance to take control of the game, the Los Angeles side ousted their opponents with style.
Though the Cardinals took the lead early in the game, but still the Dodgers bounced back in style and later never gave any chance to their opposing team to take the lead.
Slowly but steadily, the Dodgers went ahead and won in the end.
During the entire game, the Dodgers kept their winning chances alive through good pitching.
Starter Chad Billingsley pitched well for the Dodgers and allowed only one run and one earned run on seven hits. He also struck-out four and maintained his 4.15 ERA.
"I felt good -- ready to go, I made good pitches, kept them off-balance with off-speed pitches," Billingsley said with confidence.
Billingsley added after the game with more detail about his particular outing, "I don't even think about that, Your mindset is always getting ready for the next start, the next time you're out there. I like throwing in this, I mean, you stay loose you get a good sweat going."
Later even team manager Don Mattingly appreciated his starter’s role in the victory and said, "I think Chad just got enough big outs was using enough of his pitches, throwing enough strikes, We weren't going to try to get anymore tonight, for sure."
On the other hand, starter Joe Kelly played poorly and could not save the game for his team. He received three runs on four hits while he also gave two earned runs. Kelly pitched six innings and was only able to strike-out one Dodgers' hitter.
Later relief pitcher Fernando Salas and Barret Browning were also hammered with one run each which proved disastrous for the Cardinals as they lost bitterly in the end.
