Los Angeles Dodgers’ sale reflects success of MLB itself, says Commissioner Bud Selig
The Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig is linking directly the sale of Dodgers with the high level of worldwide recognition of baseball itself. He was present in a press conference where all the big stake holders of MLB were present as well as
some members of Dodgers’ former owner Frank McCourt’s office.
Bud Selig, who lately appreciated the way Dodgers’ sale have ended in a good note, also added that this is a big success for the Major League organisation around the world.
“The interest in this franchise and its historic sale price are profound illustrations of the great overall health of our industry," baseball Commissioner Bud Selig said. "This has been a long, difficult process, and I once again want to thank the great
Dodger fans for their loyalty and patience."
A group led by the former National Basketball Association and Los Angeles Lakers star Magic Johnson won the majority shares of the Dodgers franchise with hefty base price of the bidding almost $2 billion.
David Carter, who is the executive director of USC Sports Business Institute, also commented in the media saying confidently, "A big part of the purchase price is all those other things, you’ve got a great piece of property you can develop and make a game-day
experience around Chavez Ravine. A likely billion-dollar cable (television) rights deal that will come out of it makes it a very unique sale."
Selig is right on his saying that this is also a success of baseball. Some years earlier when the Dodgers were on the verge to be declared bankrupt, the MLB intervened and suggested that Dodgers must be sold to another responsible investor. That created
little anxiousness for then owner Frank McCourt, who then also agreed to handover the franchise to the most suited person.
Now Johnson has won the ownership of Dodgers and looking in great shape to help the team reach good beginning from next season onwards. In the meanwhile, the Dodgers’ roster will be heading into the new season with more self assurance now as they earlier
was much confused with the way things were happening for them.
