Los Angeles Dodgers sign out-fielder Andre Ethier for one year – MLB News
The Los Angeles Dodgers has signed star slugger outfielder Andre Ethier for one year worth $10.95 million in a deal that will likely ensure some consistent results next season. Last season, the Dodgers lost too many games causing dissappointment in the entire top management.
This step is also very appreciative as earlier at the end of 2011 Major League competition, Ethier showed his desire to play for the Dodgers for one more year. Practically, the 2011 season was the official last season for Ethier in the Dodgers roster but now he has been given another year to perform, a move that has been appreciated by many.
The Dodgers, who know that their city rivals, the Los Angeles Angels are also preparing hard as they had to make this deal with Ethier. They also knew that to replace an experienced player, they need to bring another experienced individual while signing their old player was a much better option and they did it with ease.
Earlier, the Dodgers' general manager Ned Colletti emphasised more on Ethier next season and the part he will likely be playing for their winning chances.
Colletti also stated in detail about the Dodgers recent signings and some related issues attached with them especially arbitration.
Colletti said, “It's part of the process, but we have plenty of time to come to an agreement. That would be our choice, but it is going to take more than us to come to that decision. I'm not surprised by anything, People always have their strategies and thought processes that go into both sides' filing figures. I'm sure they feel they have ample reason to file where they did." It is something I would entertain.”
Though, the Dodgers have signed Ethier for next season but Colletti is right in saying that these salary arbitration issues are on the rise involving Ethier as well. Talking about Arbitration hearings, it will begin in February where initially MLB authorities will be present for every player and for his respective franchise. This is also a possibility that Ethier’s arbitration might get resolved before he starts a Major League game.
