Los Angeles Dodgers surpass Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, July 5 at Chase Field.
The Los Angeles side played better than the Diamondbacks and never gave any chance to dominate them.
Going early into the lead, the Dodgers allowed only run to the Diamondbacks who eventually lost the game with a three run deficit.
Starter Nathan Eovaldi played wonderfully for the Dodgers and earned his first win of the season. He remained calm on the mound and tossed six solid innings which proved superb as his opposing batters were only able to hit him for one run and one earned
run. He received five hits and struck-out three Diamondbacks batters as his ERA remained consistent at 4.21.
“Nice to finally get that first one out of the way, I try to go out there and try to keep us as close in every ballgame as I can." Eovaldi said with confidence on his particular outing.
Later, Dodgers’ manager Don Mattingly said, “These are our guys, We're just kind of scratching for every win we can get right now. We've been able to put a couple of runs on the board and we've pitched good. That's been the main thing. It really goes back
to our pitching. They keep us in the game. They keep us close, and then you have a chance, Then it's a matter of getting a big hit."
Diamondbacks, playing at their home field, just could not get the right momentum. They did not play their natural game and eventually lost with bitter humiliation.
Starter Wade Miley pitched 6.2 innings and received eight hits, four runs and two homers. Striking-out only four, his ERA also rose to 3.04.
Not only pitchers, the Diamondbacks batters also played very typical defensive game.
Paul Goldschmidt was the only hitter in the Diamondbacks’ roster who scored a single run on his four at-bats but still his contribution was not enough for the team and the Arizona side was ousted by the Dodgers in the ninth. Los Angeles will be happy with
their performance as the Diamondbacks will be looking to improve their game-play if they want to compete in this exciting series.
