Los Angeles Dodgers sweep San Francisco Giants 3-0 – MLB Update
Los Angeles Dodgers blanked the defending World Series Champions San Francisco Giants 3-0 in the second game of the three-game series at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Saturday, September 10 to take a 2-0 lead.
A new acquisition, starter Dana Eveland showed his brilliancy with the ball, tossing seven shut-out innings without allowing any run. 6-year veteran player struck-out three batters and permitted two walks over his seven innings extended to 94 pitches.
27-year-old pitcher, who was acquired for the Minor League last year in November, was called to the Major League level on September 1, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Right-hand ball thrower snatched his second win of the season and sent the Giants to under
9 and a half games behind National League leader Arizona Diamondbacks.
"His two outings have been really good," Dodgers’ manager Don Mattingly said of Eveland. "He throws strikes and gets ahead of hitters. If he keeps pitching like that, it's tough to keep a guy out."
It has caused a serious problem for the Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy, who finally burst out on his team’s struggling offence.
Dana’s performance along with two relievers stretched the Giants’ scoreless streak to 17 innings. Giants are struggling with their base running as they have only two base runners at third base during the span of last 17 innings.
"You're obligated to go out there and give it your best," Bochy said. "We're fortunate to be here every game and have it sold out and have these great fans here. That's what makes it so much tougher -- at home is where we're so bad."
Kenley Jansen threw a one-hitter and struck-out two batters to close down the eighth inning while Javy Guerra allowed one walk and one hit to grab his 18th save of the season.
Giants’ Ryan Vogelsong had a bad outing as he permitted nine hits and three runs along with one walk over his eight innings to loss his seventh outing of the season. Although he struck-out six batters over 118 pitches, his shaky performance proved costly
for the Giants, who are now in great disarray about their journey to the playoffs.
Dodgers’ Matt Kemp, Juan Rivera and James Loney each scored one run. Dodgers’ win now has sent the Giants completely out of the playoff race, as they have got only 75 wins.
