Los Angeles Dodgers want Andre Ethier’s contract extended – MLB News
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ outfielder Andre Ethier is considered one of the best active players in the roster and now the team’s top management does not want to lose him at a stage where he will get a free chance to join any franchise in Major League Baseball.
The veteran outfielder has been playing in the Dodgers franchise since 2006 and at present coming close to his last year of contract with the team where he achieved two-All Star selections along with a Gold Glove Award and a Silver Slugger honour.
His free agency will allow him to make decisions freely after this season which was earlier extended for one year worth $10.95 million.
Now the Dodgers management want Ethier’s contract to be extended further as he will be a healthy sign for the entire roster. Including team general manager Ned Colletti lately has mentioned the desire to keep him.
Colletti said with quite sternness, "I've always been inclined to keep him, His start certainly hasn't hurt. It's good to see his knee has recovered from the surgery. … When a player's hurt, you never know how it affects them — their physical well-being and their confidence. It looks like he feels great."
Nez Balelo, who is Ethier's agent, has also said for his client explaining why and on what bases both sides will agree on any potential long contract, "We understand the position the Los Angeles Dodgers organization was in. We understand we had to be patient while the transition took place. If new ownership has interest in having discussions to keep Andre here in Los Angeles for years to come, yes, we would be open to having those discussions."
Currently the Dodgers outfielder Ethier is playing tremendously. He is carrying the wonderful form of his Spring Training into the 2012 Major League Baseball season and at present going with a consistent .294 hitting along with four home-runs, 22 RBIs and .342 OBP while his career hitting of .291 along with 113 homers, 468 RBIs and .364 OBP also makes him a good player among his other team-mates in the Los Angeles based baseball franchise.
