Los Angeles Kings, Sutter family thrilled at Darryl leading team to Stanley Cup -NHL Update
There are few families who have been able to achieve what the Sutter’s have in the National Hockey League (NHL) and now to put a cherry on top of all those achievements, Darryl Sutter is on route to winning a Stanley Cup after revolutionising the Los Angeles
Kings team.
No one could have thought that Darryl Sutter would have been able to make such an impact in Los Angeles, let alone be one game away from winning the Stanley Cup.
The last time got so close was with Calgary Flames back in 2004 but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7. Now, being 3-1 against New Jersey Devils, Kings are ready to make history and take the championship once and for all.
Six Sutter brothers in the National Hockey League (NHL), who have played over 5,000 games collectively and four having coaching jobs, Darryl Sutter is the most recent one to add a milestone to his families career.
Brian Sutter is the oldest of the group and is definitely excited about Darryl bringing home a Stanley Cup.
"Darryl and I are pretty close. We've gone through a lot together," said Brian. "[We] played against each other for years, were captains of our teams, and coached against each other for years. It's exciting for him. Darryl has pushed the right buttons to
get them to do the job."
"That's the most gratifying thing, to see how the kids get behind it," Rich Sutter told NHL.com. "Some of the kids will text him. Darryl's not great at replying, but you know darn well he's reading them."
Even players are amazed to see the quality of hockey planning that Darryl Sutter has brought to the team.
"His intensity is an intensity I haven't encountered," said Kings left wing Dustin Penner.
It was never expected that Los Angeles Kings would bring Darryl Sutter on board earlier this past season when they let go of ex-head coach Terry Murray. But looking at their decision now, it seems like it could not have been any better.
Los Angeles Kings and New Jersey Devils are preparing to enter Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals, which just might be the last in the series with Darryl Sutter one win away from it all.
