Los Angeles Kings' Simon Gagne excited about winning Stanley Cup after making comeback -NHL Update
Not everyone has the chance to play for the Stanley Cup, let alone after a near career ending concussion, but Los Angeles Kings’ Simon Gagne is one of those lucky ones and is definitely cherishing every moment of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley
Cup Finals against New Jersey Devils.
Being at the age of 32 and health issues beginning to pop up out of the blue, Simon Gagne knows that he might never get a chance to grab the Stanley Cup and is hopeful that this time will be it.
Having had a chance and failing to do so with Philadelphia Flyers back in 2010 as Chicago Blackhawks eliminated them in the finals, Gagne is ready to utilise his chances now and get the job done.
"To me, I take it as my last chance," Gagne said. "I'm at this point right now, and I've been in the League for 12 years. I'm always going to remember my first year in the League, losing a Game 7 here [with Philadelphia] against those guys. Being one game
away from the Stanley Cup Final, you think you're going to have many years in front of you. Then 10 years after that, I had a chance to go in the Final. It is one thing to get there, but it is not guaranteed that you're going to win it. That's what happened
in 2010 [with Philadelphia].”
Picked as the 22nd overall player during round-one of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by Philadelphia Flyers, Gagne spent his first 10 years with his original team before moving on to Tampa Bay Lightning in 2010-2011.
He had some success with Lightning as they made a surprise entry into the Eastern Conference Finals by lost to Boston Bruins. Now, he is back there again, this time in the Stanley Cup Finals.
There are few players in NHL history that have had the luck to get into the Stanley Cup Finals twice in three years, which is why Simon Gagne is focused on capitalising on his chances since they might not be there in the future.
