Los Angeles Kings Crush San Jose Sharks 2-0 in Game 1 -NHL Update
It was the first time that the Kings got to start off a playoff series with the opening game being in Los Angeles and having home-ice advantage and they surely did not disappoint as Jonathan Quick blocked all 35 shots on his net to blank state rivals, the
San Jose Sharks, 2-0.
Being the winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy last time around, Jonathan Quick demonstrated that he is certainly worthy of the prestigious award yet again as he gave the Los Angeles Kings a strong lead in the Western Conference National Hockey League (NHL)
Playoff Semifinals against San Jose. The last time Los Angeles got the opening game at home was in 1992 when Wayne Gretzky was around.
This was Jonathan Quick’s sixth shutout of his playoff career in the NHL.
"Quickie was huge for us," Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown said. "Our PK was huge against their power play. There's areas we need to clean up, still."
The Kings dominated St. Louis Blues in the opening round by moving on after Game 6 while San Jose Sharks did not show any weakness as they played through a major upset by taking down the mighty Vancouver Canucks in the opening four games, knocking them right
out of the entire scenario in a flash.
"We wanted to get off on a good foot, no matter how we had to do it," Quick said. "We got better during this game, but we've got some work to do."
"We didn't have our best first period, and it could have got out of reach quickly if Quickie wasn't back there making some big saves," said Mike Richards, who leads the team in scoring during the playoffs. "You could just tell he was seeing the puck well."
Slava Voynov kicked off the scoring with his third of the postseason with 13 seconds to go in the first round while Mike Richards topped it off 12:30 into the second by securing the match and getting his name up on the scoreboards as well. It was Mike Richards
first of the playoffs.
San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings are set to go at it again on Thursday at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles at 7:30 PM ET.
