Los Angeles Kings Dustin Brown signs on with Zurich Lions -NHL Lockout Update
Los Angeles Kings have not seen many casualties during this lockout, but Dustin Brown became the latest of the squad to leave North America and continue playing overseas after it was reported that he signed on with the Zurich Lions of the Switzerland hockey
league.
The news emerged on Thursday, November 1, 2012, as his agent, Scott Norton, confirmed it with ESPN.com and told the source about how he had become fed up with the deadlock between the National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association.
Marc Crawford, who was the Kings former coach and is currently heading the Zurich based club, is looking forward to receiving Brown as they have had some pretty good years together in the North American major league. The move is supposedly one that should
be helping the struggling Lions as they face teams like HC Davos, consisting of San Jose Sharks Joe Thornton and New York Rangers Rick Nash.
"We've got three good imports," Crawford said on Wednesday. "We have Ryan Shannon, who has been really good. Jeff Tambellini has been really good and Matt Lashoff, who played with the (Toronto) Marlies last year."
"For the first month, those guys were all behind, they really were," Crawford added. "Now they've caught up and are really showing themselves."
Brown, a 27-year-old native of Ithaca, New York, United States, is one of the best right wingers in the league right now. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings as the 13th overall back in round-one of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and has become
an integral part of the club, which he led to their first Stanley Cup championship this year.
In a total of 595 games played throughout his eight season long career with the Los Angeles Kings, Brown has accumulated 359 points, consisting of 163 goals and 196 assists with 430 minutes in the penalty box.
He still has two years left on his contract with the Los Angeles Kings, which is a six-year deal worth $19.05 million and will make him an unrestricted free agent by the time the 2013-2014 regular season comes to an end.
