Los Angeles Kings’ Stanley Cup winning assistant coach, Jamie Kompon joins Chicago Blackhawks
Jamie Kompon, who has been coaching different National Hockey League (NHL) teams for the last 15 years, most famously known for being assistant coach of Los Angeles Kings when they won Stanley Cup, has been appointed in the same position with Chicago Blackhawks.
Kompon started his coaching career when he served as co-head coach at McGill University in Montreal, after he was hired there as assistant coach for three seasons.
It was the place where Kompon had played four years of hockey as a defenseman, also playing two seasons at German Elite League and East Coast Hockey League.
After McGill University, he went to Baltimore Bandits of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 1996-1997 season, being assistant coach there as well.
The 45-year-old had spent nine years as the video coach/assistant coach with St. Louis Blues and played an important role when they won the Stanley Cup in 2003.
Kompon, working as assistant coach under then-coach of St. Louis Blues, Joel Quenneville and along with assistant coach Mike Kitchen, made a great combination that helped St. Louis Blues secure a record 113 points in 1999-2000 season.
He was named Los Angeles Kings’ assistant coach on 10th July, 2006, the post which he held for six years.
Kompon ‘s CV is further decorated with being in the coaching staff of Canada’s team in 2006 World Championships in 2006.
Chicago Blackhawks’ General Manager, Stan Bowman looked very excited on Kompon’s appointment as assistant coach and said,
"We are excited to add Jamie as assistant coach and certainly welcome the Stanley Cup pedigree he brings. He has over 15 years of NHL coaching experience and some obvious familiarity with our staff, having worked under Joel and Mike in St. Louis, which will
help our staff and players with the transition.”
Chiacago, Illinois based team’s head coach Joel Quenneville also had good things to say about his new assistant as the 53-year-old said,
“Jamie will bring us all the great qualities you look for in a coach, most notably his work ethic and a winning resume. We have a great working relationship and I am confident he will be a great fit with us here in Chicago."
