Los Angeles Kings Veteran Defenseman Robyn Regehr undergoes elbow surgery – NHL news
With the Los Angeles Kings now out of the 2013 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs, players are beginning to come out and show that they had been playing despite being injured in one way or another.
Veteran defender for the Kings, Robyn Regehr, is reportedly undergoing surgery on his elbow for what the Los Angeles team termed to be a ‘bad arm’, according to head coach, Darryl Sutter.
“He played with a bad arm the whole playoffs,” Sutter said. “We're getting multiple guys looked at and he's first on the list.”
While this may be normal during the playoffs that players usually continue playing with injuries, they can come back to bite them later on if proper medical attention is not sought out. This is why most teams force examinations on all players to ensure that
they are not facing any post-playoff issues.
Robyn Regehr is a native of Recife, Brazil and was picked up by the Colorado Avalanche as the 19th overall during round-one of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, he played most of his NHL career in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, with the Flames and was traded
to the Buffalo Sabres prior to the 2010-2011 NHL regular season. He went on to be traded to the Los Angeles Kings during 2012-2013, which is where he became an integral part of their defensive line-up. In a total of 943 games played, Regehr has 30 goals and
142 assists for a total of 172 points and 881 minutes in penalty time.
Along with Regehr, captain of the Los Angeles Kings, Dustin Brown is also reported to be suffering from a knee injury.
“I hit [Dan] Boyle,” Brown said. “It's a nothing play. I saw it on video. I continued to play the shift. I knew something was wrong, but I kept on playing. He was coming around the net and corner and [Trevor Lewis] kind of had him angled, and I kind of came
down on an angle. I think my knee just kind of hit his thigh. He's a little smaller than me, so it's just the way it hit.”
For now, he may not need surgery but will have to wear a brace for the next four to six weeks.
