Los Angeles Kings award Terry Murray with win in 1000th game over Minnesota Wild -NHL Match Update
Los Angeles head coach, Terry Murray, was awarded with a huge win his 1000th game in the league as the Kings dominated the Minnesota Wild, 5-2, Saturday night, November 12, 2011,  at the sold-out STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California, United
States, something which the team considers to be a milestone for the veteran.
"I've never had a milestone before. But it doesn't feel any different or anything special, really. It was a game that was very important for us to win", Murray said. "I really liked the focus coming into this game”.
Colin Fraser kicked off the scoring 2:49 into the first period, giving the home team an early lead to work on as the first period progressed. Minnesota Wild gave the Kings three straight penalties after that to capitalise on but Los Angeles failed to take
advantage of any single one.
Brad Staubitz, Devin Setoguchi and Warren Peters went out in various points of the period with penalties, but Minnesota still managed to keep LA out of the net.
Peters major penalty for boarding carried over into the second period which Alex Martinez took advantage of two minutes in for his second of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
Dustin Brown extended the lead while Simon Gagne and Matt Greene added two more to finalise the period and ultimately the match with nearly 36 minutes remaining in the contest.
Cal Clutterbuck finally put Minnesota on the scoreboard with his first of the night 47 seconds into the third on a Los Angeles penalty that also carried over into the next period.
Darroll Powe added the last of the match and put Minnesota within reach of the score by three, but with less than eight minutes remaining, it was hard to imagine them making a comeback.
"I was very satisfied with what I was doing", Murray added after the win. "I'm just very grateful for the opportunity to get back into it. You're forever grateful to people who give you another chance. It's great to be here”.
The Kings also have the next at home against the Anaheim Ducks while Minnesota also faces-off against the Ducks on Sunday.
