Los Angeles Kings beat Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia Flyers 1-0

The Eastern Conference leaders, Philadelphia Flyers were in action this Sunday as they were up against the Los Angeles Kings. A win was important for both teams with Kings desperate to score points to get themselves into the play-offs. The game was expected
to be won by the Flyers easily.
However, this didn’t happen as the home fans witnessed the Kings come up with a strong performance during the first period at the Wells Fargo Arena. The Kings matched the Flyers and much to the surprise of everybody scored at the start of the second period.
This goal proved to be the only goal of the game despite Flyers dominating the game. Jonathan Quick, goalie of the Kings was named the star selection of the game as he made 40 saves keeping the clean sheet intact.
The first period started with both teams waiting for chances to develop. However, Flyers were high on confidence and started to attacks. In response to this, Kings started to come up with strong plays as well and fired shots on. The game got better and better
for both sides as time passed in the period. However, no goals were seen as both teams pressed on.
There were shots on goal every now and then and there were chances for both teams to score through the counter attacks they made. However, despite all these efforts no goals were scored during the first 20 minutes of play. During the course of the period,
Philadelphia Flyers made 15 goal attempts while the Los Angeles Kings made 12 goal attempts.
The second period began with the away side stunning and silencing the home fans with a brilliant goal within the first minute of the period. The goal was scored by Drew Doughty from a very well placed flick shot. Kings continued to pile pressure on the opposing
defence but couldn’t find a way past them.
Flyers managed get themselves back together and start to come up with scoring chances of their own. There were several long range shots by the Flyers which got better as time passed in the period. There were several occasions where it looked as if a goal
would be scored but King goalie, Jonathan Quick did ever so well not to allow any goals.
The period ended with no further goals with Kings leading 1-0 at the end of the period. During the course of the period Kings made 7 goal attempts while the Flyers made 10 goal attempts.
The final period of the game was dominated by the Flyers which was as expected with Kings making a few shots on goal as well. Flyers constructed some superb plays and were undoubtedly stronger of the two sides.
But the Kings Goalie single-handedly defended not allowing any goals. He made save after save which frustrated the opposition. As a result, the flow and smoothness in Flyers game deteriorated and they weren’t able to score any further goals. The period ended
with Los Angeles Kings winning the game 1-0. During the course of the period, Flyers made 15 goal attempts while Kings made 6 goal attempts.
