Los Angeles Kings bounce back at home, take Chicago Blackhawks down 3-1 – NHL news
Letting the first two games go on the road, the Los Angeles Kings managed to stay perfect at home throughout the 2013 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs by taking Chicago Blackhawks down 3-1.
Game 3 was being looked upon as the last chance for the defending Stanley Cup champions to make a comeback, otherwise they would not have been able to recover from a 3-0 lead. The STAPLES Center was roaring with support for the Kings and the home team definitely
did not disappoint.
Justin Williams kept the momentum going by scoring his sixth of the postseason 3:21 into the opening period.
“The determination in here is a big factor and we're focused on the way we have to play,” Kings defenseman Robyn Regehr said. “We didn't do a great job of that in the first two games and we did a much better job of that here in Game 3. We need the same focus,
not to ride the roller coaster and go up and down with the emotions, just be aware of what we have to do and the next part is to go out there and execute it. We did a pretty good job of that tonight.”
Slava Voynov fired off the second straight for the Kings while it was Bryan Bickell who got the only goal for Chicago throughout the match at the 19:26 mark in the second unassisted.
Jeff Carter grabbed his second assist of the night by giving Dwight King his first goal of the playoffs, and sealing the deal for Los Angeles with less than 30 seconds remaining in the third and final period.
The Kings defence was surely worth of praise by limiting the shots on goalie Jonathan Quick to just 20. Corey Crawford faced 27 shots and failed to block two before getting pulled out.
Game 4 between the Chicago Blackhawks and Kings is also in Los Angeles and one that the home team seriously needs to win if they wish to stay alive in the Western Conference Finals series. The next matchup is scheduled for Thursday, June 6 at 9 PM ET.
