Los Angeles Kings bounce back with 3-0 win over San Jose Sharks – NHL Playoffs
Returning to the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California, turned out to be a blessing for the Los Angeles Kings, who lost the previous two straight in San Jose, as LA shutout the Sharks, 3-0 and took a 3-2
lead in the 2013 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoff Semifinal series.
The Western Conference series are taking an exciting turn, with Detroit Red Wings one game away from eliminating the Chicago Blackhawks and so are 2012 Stanley Cup winners, the Los Angeles Kings.
Seeing how Los Angeles managed to keep San Jose far away from their net throughout and how Jonathan Quick blocked all 24 attempts, the Kings are regarding this win of theirs to be one of the best so far.
"We came out with a purpose," said Quick. "We knew what was on the line tonight, and I'm lucky to play with guys who care so much about winning. Top to bottom, I thought everybody played well, but it's just three
wins. We know that doesn't mean anything."
"I think it's fair to say that this was our best effort in the playoffs, really, and the most consistent effort," LA’s Anze Kopitar said, according to NHL.com. "Now was a good time to do it."
Kopitar fired off in the second period with less than two minutes remaining to give Los Angeles one point lead over the competition. Slava Voynov and Jeff Carter finished off what Kopitar started by scoring two
straight. Voynov got his fourth of the playoffs in the opening 53 seconds while Carter potted his fifth with 32 seconds remaining.
For San Jose, Game 6 can definitely be a game changer in the sense that it may be their last or they may be playing their last.
"We've got to score. It's the playoffs," Sharks forward Logan Couture said. "We had enough chances to win tonight, but we have to start bearing down and scoring some goals.”
Game 6 is scheduled for Sunday between the Los Angeles Kings and Sharks in San Jose. Timing of the match is to be announced by the NHL.
