Los Angeles Kings focusing on taking Game 2 over New Jersey Devils -NHL Playoffs Update
Los Angeles Kings wowed the entire National Hockey League (NHL) after they drew first blood and took Game 1 of the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Finals against New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the Prudential Center in Newark.
Just like their past three series against some very tough teams like Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues, Phoenix Coyotes, Kings have shown that they are bent upon taking this series into their hands early on.
In each of the previous series, Los Angeles has won the opening two games and it seems like they will be doing so again against New Jersey. Taking Game 2 again in New Jersey will definitely give them a huge edge since Devils are known to be winners at home
but their Western rival team is just too hot at the moment.
For Anze Kopitar, the series is still in nobody’s favour until it comes to an end and focusing on Game 2 as it is their first is the only way to win it.
"When we get the first win, it is just about thinking it is a 0-0 series and focus on the next start so we can do it again," Kopitar said, who scored the game-winner in overtime of Game 1.
Los Angeles is in the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in 19 years. They are also on route to becoming the first team in NHL history to win the championship being the eighth seed in a conference.
"I don't know prior. I'm only looking ahead," Kings coach, Darryl Sutter, said after the team's optional practice on Thursday in New Jersey. "I think it's a funny setup again, between Game 1 and Game 2, we only played one game in four days since we got here.
That's how it was going to be, so now it's get ready for Saturday again.”
New Jersey Devils will be looking to take back the series and at least level it at home before having to go to Los Angeles for the remaining games. Game 2 will definitely be exciting to see which team manages to come out on top.
