Los Angeles Kings get second straight over Detroit Red Wings 5-2 -NHL Update
Los Angeles Kings is on a roll to grab that final playoff spot in the Western Conference as they grabbed their second straight victory, this time over Detroit Red Wings, 5-2, on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at the sold-out STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California.
Being one of the top ranked teams, Los Angeles was eager to test themselves against Detroit Red Wings and were certainly surprised to see how they dominated the veteran filled team.
Losing two games ago to Detroit, 4-3, meant that Los Angeles would go all out to make it right during the next chance they had.
"We were so disappointed in that loss because there was no way we should have given away those two points," Los Angeles defenseman, Drew Doughty, said. "We learned from that game, and we're using that. ... All that we can control is the games that we are
winning. Hopefully some other teams lose some for us."
"I think the key to this game was maybe weathering their storm in the second. They had some good pressure on us and some good chances, and we found a way to play even through the second period and that's huge against a team like that," Dustin Brown added.
Justin Williams gave Los Angeles the lead 6:48 through the opener while Anze Kopitar added the second straight as the home team was shorthanded with Dustin Penner on the benches for holding.
Jiri Hudler potted Detroit’s first of the night but was countered quickly by Doughty at the midway mark followed by Slava Voynov 8:23 into the third on the power play opportunity.
Johan Franzen attempted at bringing Detroit back with his 26th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season with less than seven minutes remaining but Jeff Carter secured the match well past Red Wings’ reach at 19:39.
Los Angeles Kings have an ample opportunity to continue winning when they take on the struggling Anaheim Ducks team on the road on Friday.
Detroit also has the next against the Ducks, but two days earlier on Wednesday before their final road game against San Jose Sharks on Saturday and should not have any problems dealing with the two Californian teams.
