Los Angeles Kings have little time to get back to work -NHL offseason Update
For most teams in the National Hockey League (NHL), the offseason begun quite early as some failed to make the playoffs while others faced an early elimination. But for the Los Angeles Kings, there is barely enough time to get done with all things pending
on the to-do list and general manager, Dean Lombardi, is already getting back to work.
Winning the Stanley Cup championship for the first time in franchise history, stopping the celebrations is the last things on any players mind, but reality is a bummer and Los Angeles has a lot of work to do in a short offseason they will have.
Also for the first time in the team’s history, it will be their shortest offseason ever, making things tougher than they already are, but despite that downside, Kings are prepared to do it every year if they have to.
"So many things, going through this, are new for us," Lombardi told NHL.com. "It really doesn't stop. Trust me …we'll gladly do it every year."
Re-signing Conn Smythe Trophy winning goalie, Jonathan Quick, will definitely be on the top of the list and listing the player for a due huge raise will not be easy for the club in terms of salary cap space that they have.
"We're more than capable of keeping this team together," Lombardi added. "[But] once they're together, that's not enough. It's a whole different mindset with the players having a shortened offseason.”
Keeping the players together is obviously Lombardi’s goal, but it is not as easy as it sounds for sure.
"It would be awesome [to retain the team]. Hopefully I'm part of it, too. It's a great feeling knowing you're coming into next season locked and loaded and ready to do some damage," defenseman Matt Greene said.
In order to avoid a disappointing defensive year like the Boston Bruins, who were eliminated in the opening round by Washington Capitals. Los Angeles will have to focus early on the task ahead and prepare for it like they were on route to winning their first
Stanley Cup all over again.
Next year is definitely big for Los Angeles and fans cannot wait for it to start.
