Los Angeles Kings make roster changes
The Los Angeles Kings have made changes to their line-up by placing forward Alexei Ponikarovsky on the injured reserve list, calling up Dwight King and sending down first-round draft pick Brayden Schenn.
The Kings were forced to place Ponikarovsky on the injured reserve list after the forward suffered an upper-body injury, which could keep him out for up to six weeks. The details of the injury are not clear, but it has been reported that Ponikarovsky sustained
an injury to his hand.
Los Angeles called up King from their American Hockey League affiliate the Manchester Monarchs in order to fill Ponikarovsky’s hole in the line-up. Los Angeles drafted King in the 2004 National Hockey League draft, taking the winger in the fourth round.
The youngster played 52 games in the AHL last season, notching 26 points. If the 21-year-old is able to get into a contest it will be his first game in the NHL.
Finally, the Kings elected to send star prospect Schenn down to the AHL for what the team is calling a two-week conditioning stint. Schenn has not been in the King’s line-up since 30 October, and in eight games this season has only managed two assists and
a minus-one rating. Moreover, the youngster has been a healthy scratch for the past two weeks. The Kings are hoping that some time in the AHL will help the 19-year-old find his game.
Los Angeles has been playing tremendous hockey early in the 2010-11 season. The club currently sits in first in the Pacific Division and first in the Western Conference with a 12-4-0 record. The Kings currently boast the ninth best offence in the League
and the third best defence.
LA will be back in action on Wednesday 17 November when they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets at home.
