Los Angeles Kings of the West, await opponent in Stanley Cup Final -NHL Playoffs Update
Los Angeles proved why their team is known as the Kings after they conquered the Western Conference for the first time in 19 years and regained that throne that had been awaiting them ever since Wayne Gretzsky left.
With the Western Conference out of the way, Kings have much bigger plans and that involves taking home the Stanley Cup championship come who may from the East.
New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers are battling for Eastern Conference supremacy as Kings await patiently their next opponent who dares to take them on for the most coveted prize in the hockey world.
After making an incredible run to get where they are today, Los Angeles can only but ponder on how they got here and who the next challenger will be.
"It's a great accomplishment," goalie Jonathan Quick added. "But, there is still work to be done. That was a great team effort to get where we are now. I couldn't be happier for this group of guys. Everybody has worked so hard for the past eight months.
Kings took down Presidents’ Trophy winners and 2011 Stanley Cup finalists, the Vancouver Canucks in just five games in the quarterfinals. They went on to eliminate second seeded St. Louis Blues in a clean four-game sweep and ousted Phoenix Coyotes in Game
5 most recently.
Los Angeles has been through a lot and fans are high on their feet to get a chance at bringing the cup back home.
"I'm so happy right now," said defenseman Drew Doughty. "It means everything. You grow up your whole life wanting to be in that Stanley Cup Final and to make it there -- how very hard it is. You hear older guys who have played for a long time, guys like
[Willie] Mitchell who's played 13 years in the League and he hasn't been there yet. To get there for him and the older guys is great."
It will definitely be interesting to see who comes out on top in the opposing conference as both teams will fight it out in the battle of West vs. East for Lord Stanley’s cup.
